GELOSIA

The design concept draws on the heritage of rural architecture, where brick is the fundamental structural element, and is inspired by “gelosie.” A gelosia a window grille designed to block the view into a room while allowing those inside to look out; however, the term has come to also refer to perforated brick walls.

The project, therefore, began by reimagining and reconstructing the threads of this collective memory. It began by highlighting the value of the wooden brick as an element for building one’s own space—a simple yet highly versatile form.
