DEFERRARI+MODESTI was created in 2010 in Florence, founded by Javier Deferrari and Lavinia Modesti.

Before founding the firm, we gained various experiences, including collaborations with Enzo Mari, Manuel Gausa and finally with Stefano Boeri and Giovanni La Varra.

Over the years the studio has specialised in Interior Design, Exhibition Design and Product Design, with experience in Italy and abroad.

We work on projects of different scales and types, each time developing a unique concept with its own distinct poetics.

Our projects have been published in numerous trade journals.

In addition to the professional activity of design, we also have an academic commitment. Since 2017 we have been collaborating with IED Florence as coordinators and teachers of the undergrade course in "Interior and Furniture Design".

How we work

We always try to see the design process as a whole, but also in every detail. We try to have a broad yet very focused gaze, developing a project as if in a spiral, we go forward and then come back by widening our gaze. A strategy that requires an analytical, pragmatic but also poetic approach.

We design spaces in which people can feel comfortable. Fundamental to this, is a careful study of the characteristics of the place where we are to intervene and a deep understanding of how the space will be used and experienced. This is why our approach is inclusive and promotes an active dialogue with our clients, consultants and collaborators.

We consider light, color, form and materials as architectural elements to be used and combined to create a space that stands the tests of time. This requires meticulous attention to detail, the use of different materials, and the functionality of spaces. To achieve a harmonious interaction between architecture and interior elements, we often design custom furniture and lighting.

We carefully study every technical detail, with the aim of achieving a consistent space in the various parts.
We follow the sampling of materials with scrupulous care, working closely with craft firms to identify the most suitable solutions.
