The project involves the interiors of a building in Brozzi, Florence, whose origins appear to date back to the early Middle Ages.

Within this historic setting, DEFERRARI+MODESTI was commissioned to create a home for a young Florentine couple, redesigning the living spaces through a series of custom-designed volumes that act as focal points within the interior.

These volumes define new spatial configurations within the rooms they occupy: they create entrance areas, provide storage, contain service spaces and become functional elements such as the kitchen island. In doing so, they recalibrate the proportions of the existing rooms, introduce new functions and reshape the way people move through the home.

The predominant palette combines white, black and grey. White plastered walls enhance the natural light, while oak parquet flooring runs throughout both levels of the house. Darker elements emphasise the new spatial interventions, while the furniture is predominantly selected in neutral tones. Colour appears as an unexpected accent: in the guest bathroom, concealed within the dark volume that contains it, and in the bedroom, where the headboard also forms the lining of the walk-in wardrobe and, together with the curtain, introduces a distinctive tone within the otherwise restrained interior.
